About Our School

United Community School District is located between Ames and Boone on Highway 30.  The district is made up of 133 square miles of agricultural, residential and business properties.

Welcome to United Community Schools, where our students live for today and learn for tomorrow! We are proud of the diverse and unique programs that we offer at United.

Our school consists of two buildings, the United North  building houses daycare, and pre-school through first grades.  United South has grades second through sixth.  These two buildings are home to over 150 of the best students in the area! Each of these children works daily with our exemplary staff comprised of dedicated, competent and caring individuals who provide a child-centered learning environment for the students.

United Community is proud to offer a variety of services to our patrons.  We offer a high quality preschool and before- and after-school childcare programs that are licensed by the Iowa Department of Human Services.  Our kindergarten-fifth grade students can take part in an after-school program, Brainbuilders, that allows students to experience a variety of learning opportunities, including foreign language, instrumental music and yoga.

Unique to our district is the is our Outdoor Classroom. This handicapped- accessible, thirteen acre classroom and bird blind consists of natural prairie, and both a hardwood and an evergreen forest. This area is a source of continuous learning opportunities for both the students and the community.

At United, we provide a quality education for students through strong instructional skills of the staff, innovative educational opportunities, and by nurturing parent and community partnerships.  We have active P.T.O. organizations, and patron advisory boards. Our proximity to Iowa State University also allows us to work closely and share ideas with student teachers, work study students, tutors and professors.

We invite you to visit and learn more about the exceptional experiences available for United students and patrons.
